The Human Movement teachers at Safety Bay Senior High School are highly motivated, passionate and enthusiastic about consistently instilling in their students a love of learning, and lead by implementing practical measures that adhere to the school ethos of ‘Imagine, Believe, Achieve’.
We strongly believe in the benefits gained through participation in health and physical education and we seek to provide opportunities for students to develop knowledge, attitudes and skills that lead them to make more informed decisions about their health, lifestyle choices and levels of suitable activity. Courses are developed in alignment with the recommended ‘K-10 Syllabus’ and Curriculum Council requirements and learning environments created enrich students abilities to engage in lessons and are motivated towards achieving successful outcomes.
Here at Safety Bay we are dedicated to facilitating and encouraging students to demonstrate the interpersonal skills necessary for maintaining effective relationships and the refining of movement skills and strategies for confident participation in physical activity.
In Year 8, 9 and 10 Health Education our focus is on encouraging students to develop an understanding of relevant and contemporary health issues. Concepts taught seek to inform students and have a positive impact on individuals and their peers when making assertive decisions that enhance physical, social and emotional health. Topics covered are Fitness, Nutrition, Bullying (including cyber bullying), Illicit Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco Use, Sexual Health, Relationships and Keys for Life (Driver Education) linked with an overarching focus on interpersonal skills.
Students will be provided with an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sporting contexts, exposing them to a range of skills and strategies to enhance involvement and encourage life long participation. Students will be provided with opportunities to develop leadership and self-management skills, effective communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution, officiating and coaching and teamwork skills. Activities include Touch, Netball, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Tennis, AFL Football, Softball and Modified Flag Football. Safety Bay has an extensive array of quality facilities such as a Gymnasium, Fitness Centre (weights, fitness, circuits, table tennis, pool tables) Turf, Outdoor Basketball Courts, Oval and recently upgraded Tennis Courts.
Options (Physical & Outdoor Education)
The purpose of these classes is to provide students with more specialised alternatives to activity and engage them in learning that provides a solid foundation for continued development into upper school. Classes include Girls Multi-sports, Basketball/Netball, AFL/Cricket, Outdoor Pursuits and Recreation.
The Certificate II and III Outdoor Recreation provide the learner with the opportunity to acquire a range of outdoor skills through a variety of recreation activities. Students will learn the skills necessary to guide or instruct activities with a focus on a specialisation from several activity areas.

The Safety Bay SHS Cheerleading Program is designed to build on your child's natural ability and focus on developing their Cheerleading technique in Cheer and Pom.
An important aspect of the program is performance and competition. Students compete in various local and state competitions throughout the year. They are also given the opportunity to work with International Coaches during workshops, travel for the state Cheerleading Championships and take part in excursions to develop their physical skills.
Students learn Physical Skills, Leadership Skills, how to maintain effective relationships and the ability to have life long healthy and active lifestyle.
