The following Certificate level courses are offered in Years 11 and 12 -
Certificate II in Information Technology, Certificate II in Business Studies, Certificate II in Creative Industries Media and Certificate III in Multimedia. These can be taken together with courses or by themselves.

MEDIA

Media courses focus on movie making. Media is a practical subject where students can develop their writing, filming and IT skills. Students will analyse feature films and learn practical skills including camerawork, lightning techniques and digital editing. Lower schools courses are optional, with Media classes offered in Years 9 and 10.

YEAR 9 MEDIA (Film and Television)
In Semester 1, the focus is Film and Filmmaking. Students will analyse and respond to films and produce a short film and film trailer. They will work in groups to script, film, edit their media productions. In Semester 2, the focus is on Television Genres and Advertising. Students will analyse TV genres and commercials and produce their own TV Show and TV Commercial. In Year 9 Media, students will develop practical skills in scripting, camera work, lighting and digital editing using iMovie.

YEAR 10 MEDIA
All Year 10 courses lead directly to Year 11 and 12 courses. Semester 1 focuses on Music Videos. Students will analyse Music Videos and produce their own Music Video. In Semester 2 the focus is on Film Genre and students will analyse Films and Produce their own short Film. In Year 10 Media, students will develop practical skills in scripting, camera work, lighting and digital editing using iMovie. This subject may lead directly in the year 11 courses- 1A Media Production and Analysis and Certificate II in Creative Industries Media.

YEAR 11-           1A/B MEDIA PRODUCTION AND ANALYSIS- No exam required
Media Production and Analysis (MPA) is an exciting course that enables students to learn various aspects about the media industry.
Unit 1A focuses on personal experience of the media. An introduction to the language of Media, students will examine fictional film and television texts. Students will learn basic production skills in scripting, filming, editing and lighting. They will create their own film productions and film trailers using iMovie on MAC computers. In Unit 1B they will learn how point of view can be constructed in non-fiction texts. Students will demonstrate their understanding of point of view by analysing non-fiction texts and creating their own film productions. 

YEAR 12-            1C/D MEDIA PRODUCTION AND ANALYSIS- No exam required
The focus of Unit 1C is entertainment, with the focus on Hollywood Film Genres. Students will view and analyse feature films, as their knowledge of the media is reinforced. They will analyse genre films from different eras and examine how audience’s cultural experiences influence their responses to media. Students will script, film and edit their own film productions and film trailers using iMovie on Mac computers. Students will also study Infotainment, with a focus on Lifestyle Programmes. A range of non-fiction commercial and non-commercial media texts provide opportunities to examine how reality is dramatised and represented, while engaging and informing audiences. Students will script, film, edit and produce their own media productions.


YEAR 11 and 12-
CERTIFICATE II in CREATIVE INDUSTRIES MEDIA (2 Year Course)

This exciting 2 year course enables students to learn various aspects about the film industry. It is a practical, interesting, hands on course in which students learn about operating a video camera, film production, lighting techniques, digital editing and sound editing. Students will develop an understanding of safety and health procedures in the film industry and learn about the new developments in film technology.
This is a nationally accredited Level II course for students who are interested in film and film making.


BUSINESS STUDIES

Business is all around us and affects and influences our daily life by the way we work, spend, save, invest, travel, and play. It influences jobs, incomes, and both personal and business opportunities.

YEAR 9 BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
Semester One focuses on personal income, budgeting and finance (including credit traps). In Semester Two the focus is on how businesses and the government affect our purchasing decisions through product benefits, packaging and advertising.

YEAR 10 BUSINESS ENTERPRISE
Semester One focuses on being enterprising and thinking differently.  In Semester Two students then put these skills to work by planning and marketing enterprising ideas.

YEAR 11 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ENTERPRISE
This is a Stage 1 course that focuses on Enterprise (thinking differently), Marketing Mix (Product, Promotion, Place and Price) and Human Resource Management from the business perspective.  This is an excellent introduction for any students thinking of middle management positions or running their own small business.

YEAR 12 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ENTERPRISE
This is a Stage 1 course that allows the students to work in a team and run a business within the confines of the school.  It allows the students to implement business practices on a practical level.


INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Lower schools courses are optional with IT classes offered in Years 9 and 10. IT courses focus on graphics tools, animations, game making and some programming (including LEGO Mindstorms). In Year 11 and 12, the Curriculum Council course offered is Applied Information Technology to university level (ATAR). Certificate II in Information Technology, and Certificate III in Media (Multimedia) are also offered.

YEAR 10 IT APPLICATIONS

The subject offers students opportunity to learn to use IT tools in personal and industry setting. This includes a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe CS5 creative suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Fireworks) and number of others software applications. Students learn how to design and publish range of documents and products, including work documents, illustrations, animations and games. Subjects may lead directly to Applied Information Technology courses or Certificate courses, including Certificate II in Information Technology and Certificate III in Multimedia.

CERTIFICATE II INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
A two year long course offered in Year 11. -No exams required.This is a nationally recognised Level II course that provides the training required to use computers in a personal or business situation. It is popular for both boys and girls interested to use computer effectively, as well as for government clerical duties and general office work. It is a performance driven subject and provides an excellent entry to study at TAFE.

CERTICATE III IN MEDIA (MULTIMEDIA)
A nationally recognised two year long Level III course- No Exams required.
It provides the training required to develop skills and knowledge in digital content as well as interactive media in a personal or business situation. It is a popular course amongst our upper school students interested in developing digital graphics, animations, movies web pages and presentations using tools. It provides an excellent entry for further study at TAFE. It is a practical subject assessed based on performance.

APPLIED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Year 11 1AB AIT Applied Information Technology- No exam required

Year 12 1CD AIT Applied Information Technology- No Exam required

In Year 11 course the focus is on using IT and communication tools in daily life on a personal level and in basic business situations. Students develop a range of skills that enable them to communicate effectively using suitable technologies in daily life and within the small office environment.

In year 12 course the focus is on personal and business ICT needs and wants. Students investigate how information communication technology is used, how it can affect daily lives and uses by business. Students develop a variety of productivity and multimedia skills. Students create a range of information solutions that inform, persuade, educate or entertain.
